Developed for children 3 and up, the highly engaging "The Enchanted Virtual Colouring Book" teaches toddlers basic computer point and click skills in a fun and gratifying way commensurate with their abilities.
There are twelve pictures and a palette of colours. Your child learns how to access and select a picture, and then to use the "paints" in the palette to colour in the outlined areas of the drawing. Consequently, along with introducing your child to using a computer, the fun app fascinates and helps to develop his/her attention skills.
The pictures are progressively more challenging for the child and can be browsed using an arrow navigation button. A little guidance from you is advisable in choosing the degree of difficulty. The pictures are farm animals - something which your child is already familiar with through other media - and there are plans for downloads of additional series to be made available in the future. The pictures can be saved, with all colouring in tact, for the child to come back to later - just like a physical colouring book, and an auto-save option prevents loss of the child's work if there are interruptions.
Your child is probably best started with a touch screen, using his/her finger or a stylus (if already experienced in physical colouring with crayons) to point to the selected colour in the palette and then to point and click on the area of the picture to colour. Alternatively, the app is compatible with a mouse, touchpad or Xbox controller. Audio help simplifies any difficulties the child may have, and suggests next steps. Pictures are printable via the system's default printer. They can also be printed without being completed if required, to be used for traditional colouring.
