Using Telegram

The software requires about 25 MB of disk space, installs fast and you can launch it as soon as you click the 'Finish' button. When we launched it for the first time, the simple user interface displayed a prominent 'Start Messaging' button, which took us to the page where we needed to confirm our country code and enter our phone number. The program identified our country and code correctly.

Please note that your phone number must be registered on the Telegram platform. You can use a number you had already registered on your Android or iOS device or register a new one via the desktop app. In the second case, you will need to enter your details and create your profile. We created a username and added a profile picture.

You can add friends who are already using Telegram or invite new ones. You can also search for contacts on the upper left part of the program window. We searched for and added friends using the @ symbol before their usernames, as we did in Twitter.

Clicking contacts' names allowed us to view their profiles and perform such tasks as editing their display names, downloading their profile photos, sharing them with other friends, disabling notifications or deleting them from the contact's list.

Telegram is fast, thanks to its distributed infrastructure with data centers placed in different parts of the world. This means users are connected to the servers closest to them. Communications are not only fast but also secure. We could encrypt our messages and even set a period after which they would self-destruct.

We could also send any type of document by dropping them in the main program window. When we received a picture, we previewed it within the chat window, while opening other file types was as easy as clicking their message balloons.

By default, clicking the 'Close' button sends Telegram to the system tray, so you can continue with other tasks without disconnecting the program.

Conclusion

Telegram Desktop gives access to the fast Telegram platform, which allows users to share any type of file without limit. Although it is not intended for business purposes, it features powerful security features that enhance privacy.
