You'll most likely need to repair your Windows operating system at least once in a while for your computer to continue operating at its optimum level. Windows Repair Toolbox is designed to make the process easier, faster and uniform. The free tool is compatible with Windows XP and later editions, and it requires Microsoft .NET Framework 4 and an Internet connection to work.

Using Windows Repair Toolbox

Windows Repair Toolbox comes in both installer and portable versions, but this review focuses on the portable one. We launched the program directly from the folder where we saved it. The free software took several seconds to launch when we ran it for the first time as it collected information about our system.

The user interface was divided into three main parts: the upper part featured tabs for accessing different program functions, the middle part that displayed relevant details depending on the selected tab and the lower section that displayed information about our system, including the installed operating system, Windows install date, memory, Internet connection status, CPU type, available disk space and temperature.

The 'Tools' tab grouped different tools depending on their respective functions, such as backup and recovery, hardware, Windows, repairs, uninstallers and other useful tools. Placing the mouse pointer over a tool tab displayed a brief description about what the tool did. Clicking on a tool tab started downloading the tool, and a bar on the lower part of the program window showed us the download process.

The 'Malware Removal' tab gave us the option of downloading different tools for removing various kinds of malware, optimizing or repairing Windows and updating Windows, Java, Adobe Flash and Adobe Reader. The monitor on the right part of the window displayed graphs showing CPU temperature and usage, RAM and disk activity.

The 'Final Tests' tab gave us reports about different checks or opened relevant places from where we could perform required checks. The 'Settings' tab allowed us to configure the way we wanted the tools to function. We could also restore default settings and check for updates.

Conclusion

Windows Repair Toolbox is a real toolbox as its name indicates. It provides an easy and quick way of downloading many tools for performing various tasks, ranging from repairing Windows to removing different kinds of malware. However, we could not use some of the tools unless we de-activated real-time antivirus protection.
