Would you like a better way of managing the files and folders on your computer? Then try xPlorer2 Lite, which is designed for non-profit use in homes and schools. The application packs a lot of functionality in its relatively small size.

The installer will let you perform additional setup tasks like creating a desktop shortcut, including modern skin for the GUI, adding functions to the default folders context menu, and replacing Windows Explorer for all users. You may also use a separate single-pane window for integration, which is not recommended.

The program features a ribbon graphical user interface that easily allows quick access to advanced features. You can also remove the ribbon interface and switch to the classic menu bar if you prefer the traditional look and feel of commander style file managers.

All menu commands show descriptive texts on the status bar that help you understand them. The status bar also displays short messages that provide information about command errors and outcomes.

The customizable application lets you move toolbars around by dragging the handles on their left sides. You can display or hide toolbars under the "View" menu. To customize a toolbar, right-click on it and then select the functions and features that you want, such as command buttons and text labels. If you want to re-order buttons, drag them as you hold the "Shift" key.

xPlorer2 Lite features multiple menus that may initially overwhelm some users. If you are one of them, you can easily switch to a simpler set that has fewer commands. The hidden commands will still be accessible via their respective keyboard shortcuts.

Apart from customizing the menus, you can also change the way you view content. The application also allows you to preview different file formats, including documents, images, videos and music files. Side-by-side view makes it easy to manage files. You may filter content and make selections using wildcards, and you may choose to display only the selected content.

The dual pane mode, which you select via the "View menu, lets you view contents of two folders in the same window. However, you can only work with one folder at a time from the tree menu. Pressing the "Tab" key or clicking a folder switches the active pane. The dual pane mode is also convenient for quickly copying and moving files or folders between directories and drives.

xPlorer2 Lite is a free version of the powerful file manager that lets you do more than the conventional Windows Explorer. Although it is a "lite" version intended for personal and academic use, it still includes a number of advanced features not found in similar software.
