TTTCube v4.4

Some games from childhood are hard to replicate on a PC. It's not that they're too complex - indeed, the problem is that they're a little too simple for computers. Some games, though, can be adapted if there's a sufficient twist. This is exactly what TTTCube does with Tic-Tac-Toe, throwing it into a 3D space and changing the game just enough to make it fun on a computer.

If you've played Tic-Tac-Toe, you know the major problem with the game is that it's solved. It's entirely possible to know that you've won or lost in one or two turns. While this isn't always an issue when playing humans, it makes playing against a computer opponent possible. By moving things to a 3D plane, though, TTTCube puts some competition back in the game. This is a fantastic way to breathe some life back into an old game.

Are there flaws? Sure. The game is short and simple. There's nothing here to keep you in the game after you've grown tired of it. That's not much of a flaw, though, especially considering the stated goal of the game. If you're just looking for a better version of Tic-Tac-Toe, you've found it here. If you're looking for more, you should already know better.

TTTCube takes a solved problem and opens it up once more. Being able to play Tic-Tac-Toe and not knowing if you're going to win after the first turn is an amazingly liberating feeling that will pull you back to childhood. The game isn't all that deep and there's still some rough spots, but it's a great way to spend your free time. If you're looking for a way to play a very simple game and find some joy in it, this title is for you.
