If you have used Mac OS X, then you are most likely familiar with Quick Look, a handy feature that enables you to preview files without opening their associated applications. QuickLook brings the same function to Windows operating systems for a richer experience. Although similar applications had been developed earlier, they support relatively few file types and the developers hardly update them anymore.

Once you have installed and launched QuickLook, it largely stays out of sight while remaining active. Its System Tray icon allows you to perform basic configurations, such as setting it to run when you start Windows. You may also use the application's context menu to manually check for updates.

The program is compatible with many file types, including common image formats, compressed archives, video files, Microsoft word, Excel and PowerPoint files, OpenDocument files, Email and Outlook Email files, Comma-separated values files, Markdown, HTML and PDF files. It also supports all kinds of text files. Microsoft and OpenDocument files require MS Office installation.

You can select the files to preview from different places, including Windows File Explorer, Desktop and Save- or Open-file dialog. When you press the spacebar, you will see the preview on a pane on the right side of the window. Pressing the spacebar again ends the preview. You may also hide the preview window by pressing the Esc key. Pressing Enter opens or executes the current file. If you want to zoom either in or out of images, then press the ctrl key as you turn the mouse wheel.

QuickLook is a special tool that enables you to preview different file types without opening their associated applications. The application primarily integrates with File Explorer but you may also preview files from third-party file managers.
